CO. CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP Q/F Dr. Crokes 0-17 Austin Stacks 1-11 played in Connolly Park on Sunday last this was a hard fought encounter. We were quick out of the blocks and led 0-08 to 0-01 after 20 minutes. Stacks began to win more primary possession and by the short whistle narrowed the gap to three points 0-10 to 0-07.
On the resumption we increased our lead to four but in the 40th minute a Stacks goal narrowed the gap to the minimum, we tacked on two quick points but our opponents came back with 3 un-answered points to draw level. in the final 10minutes we scored 3point without reply to run out winners.
A good start to the campaign with the six forwards getting on the score sheet.

UNDER 12 BLACK AND AMBER TEAMS Dr Crokes will be represented by 3 teams in the upcoming Under 12 County Leagues and all players got match practice in the East Kerry Leagues which commencecd on Sunday 25th March 2012. With two teams in East Kerry competition the Black and Amber squads were rotated in Go Games against Kenmare and Kilcummin. The focus of Go Games is participation and the small-sided games allow for more individual touches of the ball and the non-competitive nature of the competition lets the child develop without undue pressure. These young boys are now performing the skills they have learnt on Saturday mornings in a match situation and also learning the very basic foundations of team formations and defending and attacking.
The Amber squad ,completely made up of Under 11s, also played an entertaining challenge game against our neighbours, Killarney Legion on Friday 30 March.
Every child played at least 2 of the 3 games with both squads finishing the week unbeaten. The results are secondary to participation and skill development and fun and enjoyment was had by all.
U12 Football: Having watched the senior team advance in the County Club Championship, our under 12 team wanted to keep super Sunday a positive one for Crokes. We visited Kilcummin and knew we had tough opposition. We got off to a flying start with Jason Cahillane, man of the match, scoring a quick goal and two points and Roan Delaney scoring terrific two points. In the backs, Josh Fleming was brilliant, as usual – brave, strong and intelligent. Josh had good back-up in Jonathon Green another really strong defender. Jason raised another green and two white flags. Tristan O’Donoghue, playing midfield, put in huge work and took a great point also. Michael Lenihan was in fine form too and pointed from way out the field. Gary O’Connor was very comfortable in the back line and nothing was getting past him – a strong performance for such a young player. Seán O’Neill covered every blade of grass working out of mid field. Fionn Doherty finished the first-half scoring with a fantastic point.
Kilcummin had scored well in the first half and there was a lot of work still to be done. Michael Lenihan started the scoring with a great point followed by a cracking goal from Fionn Doherty. David O’Mahony, captain for this game, had a great first half in goal with huge kick-outs. For the second half David played outfield and was next to score a huge point followed by another by Jason Cahillane. Colm Cagney was a dynamo in the half-forward line, linking the play from the backs into the forward line. Fionn Doherty slammed in another gaol sandwiched by points from Seán O’Neill and David O’Mahoney. John Joseph Buckley played his best game so far this season and tracked every attack and drove it back out the field. Jonathon Green was the net-minder for the second half and pulled off a number of great saves. Michael Lenihan banged in another goal, followed by a brace of points from Fionn Doherty and Jason Cahillane. Seán O’Neill slotted home the final goal of the game and Michael Lenihan scored the final point of the game.
Kilcummin scored well in the second half. But the Crokes boys came out on the right end of the scoreline in the end. This was a very good performance, with Fionnbharr Hickey and Lee Downing missing due to injury and Frank McGuire on holiday abroad. Congratulations to Fionnbharr, who was a member of the St Olivar’s School team that came second in the All-Ireland Credit Union Quiz competition. Next up is Spa – a very difficult assignment.

Minor Co. League Dr. Crokes 0-07 Glenflesk 0-05. It took 3 late points to secure victory in this round 4 clash on Friday last, played in Lewis Road in poor conditions this was a dour encounter. Glenflesk were first out of the traps and led with a pointed free in the opening minute, they dominated proceedings for the next while but some terrible shooting and a tremendous penalty save from Alan Flynn kept them at bay. Lawrence Byrnes opened our scoring in the 7th minute with a pointed free, further minors from Cian O`Lionard and Tony Brosnan saw us lead at half time 0-03 to 0-02.
On the resumption Tony Brosnan increased the lead to two in the second minute, scores on either side were hard to come by but Glenflesk had edged ahead 0-05 to 0-04 with 3 minutes remaining. the introduction of Gavin O`Shea for the final minutes saw him convert two frees to push ahead by the minimum and the curtain came down with a final Tony Brosnan minor.
This Friday April 27 we are away to Austin Stacks 7pm.
COISTE NA OG U16s On Monday last, our U16's recorded their 4th victory on the trot in the East Kerry League against a very competitive Kilcummin side. Following playing with a stiff breeze in the first half we lead at half time by 1 - 7 to 1 - 6, our goal coming from corner forward Michael Casey. The first half performance was disappointing and we lacked urgency in many positions. Credit where credit is due though, our second half performance was significantly better and we played some lovely football into the wind. We kicked 11 second half points which was impressive scoring, while defensively we tightened up considerably. A feature of game was the point scoring of Darren Newton Doherty, who amassed a tally of 10 points in difficult conditions
We travelled to Carrigaline on sat last to take on the home side in a challenge game. The game ended in a draw and was a very good outing for us. We would like to thank Carrigaline for their hospitality on the day and especially for the spread they laid on for us following the game
U14 county league Dr Crokes 5-15 Listowel 2-4 A good win in round 5 of the county league. In goals Patrick Wrenn had another outstanding game. In front of him the fullback line of Donie O'Sullivan, Eodhan Browne and James McAuliffe were well on top and gave the half back line of Mark O'Shea , David Naughton and Mike Potts the licence to attack which they did all game to great effect.
Midfielders David Shaw and Conor Harrington dominated possession and
delivered a lot of quality ball to the forward line. The half forwards, Dion Marcos, Kieran Fitzpatrick and Brendan Coppinger were alert and brave all night and contributed hugely to the scoreline. In the full forward line Nelu Doherty, Mark Harnett and Sean Courtney caused havoc for the Listowel full back line and also contributed a lot of scores.
Subs used and big contributors were, Lorcan McMonigle, Jack Galvin, Cian O'Hare, Mark Fitzgerald and David Rea. A good result which should guarantee us a place in the semi final.
Best on the night were David Shaw, David Naughton, Conor Harrington,Mike Potts, Brendan Coppinger, Mark Harnett Mark O'Shea, Dion Marcos and Kieran Fitzpatrick.
Missing through injury were Shane O'Connor, Conor Quirke and Billy Courtney.
Feile we came up short in the final against a physically stronger Kerins O`Rahillys side in difficult conditions on Saturday last, having to play extra time in the s/final did not help the cause but we have no complaint on the result. Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Michael Potts who received a nasty mouth injury in the s/final, undoubtely he was sorely missed in the final.

EAST KERRY JUNIOR FINAL Dr. Crokes 3-12 Spa 0-10. Played in Kilcummin on Wednesday last we overcame the challenge of a gallant Spa side. Both sides started brightly but guilty of some appalling shooting and it took until the 11th minute for the opening score a goal by Man of the Match Brendan Falvey quickly followed by a Bryan O`Shea point. Spa opened their account with a J. Spillane point from a 45 in the 13th minute. David Moloney added a minor and Falvey with an other goal stretched our advantage to lead 2-02 to 0-01 after the opening quarter.
Further points from Gavin Tucker, Falvey, and O`Shea and a goal from Edmund O`Sullivan left us leading at the short whistle 3-05 to 0-04.
On the resumption C. Tobin reduced the deficit with a pointed free in the opening minute but points from Falvey (2), Tucker and O`Shea stretched the advantage to 3-09 to 0-06 after the third quarter. Tobin kept Spa in touch with some pointed frees.
Falvey, Kieran Ward and Shane O`Neill (f) completed the scoring while management ran the bench.
This was a good performance with Mark Egan, Sean Coppinger, Kieran Ward and Conor O`Neill particularly outstanding in defence, Midfielders Chris Lawlor and James Jones controlled proceedings while Brendan Falvey Gavin Tucker and Bryan O`Shea stood out.
Dermot Griffin Chairman East Kerry Board presented the Cup to winning Captain David Neeson.
Co. Junior League we played the same opposition on Friday last and kept our un-beaten record in this years competition with a 1-13 to 1-07 victory.

Trip to Tipp The U11/12 Boys travelled to Thurles on Sunday 27th May in support of the Kerry Senior Team. A party of 40 enjoyed the fine weather and although the performance was just good enough to win the game and no more, the children enjoyed the opportunity to take to the road and visit the famous Semple Stadium.
The also observed the Tipperary/ Limerick Munster Hurling Championship match and returned satisfied to the Kingdom, their enthusiasm for Gaelic Games suitably enhanced.
HURLING U12 County Hurling League Dr. Crokes 8-8 Lixnaw 2-3 Dr. Crokes kept up their good run last Friday evening winning their 4th game in a row, therefore gaining maximum points and winning Phase 1 of the Division 2 County League.
They have now beaten Dingle, Kilmoyley, Ardfert and Lixnaw.
This game saw our lads play their best hurling so far and they are certainly improving with every game. Patrick Crehan was again very steady in goal. Cian Fahy and Padraic Looney, Niall O Brien and Frank McGuire were in top form in defence.
Michael Lenihan and Gary Cronin were dominant in mid-field all through and sent in plenty of quality ball to our forwards.
Up front, Ian O’Connell produced the goods and hit a hat-trick of goals.
He was well assisted by Michael Horgan, Tom Doyle, Sean O’Neill, Sean Langford and Adam Carey.
Great to see John Joseph Buckley making a welcome return to the game. He also played great stuff when introduced. Scorers: Michael Lenihan (2-05), Ian O Connell (3-01), Michael Horgan (1-01),Tom Doyle (1-00),Adam Carey (1-00) and Cian Fahy (0-01).
U14 County Hurling League Dr. Crokes 1-08 Crotta 6-11 Our final game of the County League saw us face Crotta on a glorious evening at home in Killarney. We began the game slow and, as a result, were under constant pressure in our half of the field. Crotta put away 2 early goals which immediately gave them the upper-hand. But thanks to trojan work by Daniel O’Brien and Eodhan De Brun, we began to fight back for the last 10 minutes of the first half. Michael Lenihan kept us in the game with some great saves and patience in goal.
We started the second half with a new found confidence and drive. Our mid-fielders started running at the Crotta defence which caught them by surprise and resulted in Mark O’Shea scoring some well-deserved points. Dylan Dermody seemed to control mid-field for a period which allowed Daniel O’Brien to move forwards and score a goal early on.
Crotta struck back by taking advantage of what looked like a young back-line by striking long distance in their forwardline but the was put to a halt shortly afterwards. The full-back line, which consisted of Frank McGuire, Lorcan O’Connor & Cian Fahy for a long period, showed real confidence and grit, clearing their lines on numerous occasions.
Shane Kennedy made a welcome return from injury. James Flavin stood strong in centre-back, getting stuck in and winning tackles. Cian O’Hare made a number of solo runs from wing back and delivered to the forwards. Conor Quirke and John Hannigan rounded off the half-forward line with Mark O’Shea. Jack Kelliher and Michael Aherne worked tirelessly in full-forward and were ably assisted by Robert Lee when introduced. Team Michael Lenihan, Cian Fahy, Eodhan De Brun, Frank McGuuire, Lorcan O’Connor, James Flavin, Cian O’Hare, Daniel O’Brien (1-01), Dylan Dermody (0-01), John Hannigan, Mark O’Shea (0-05), Conor Quirke, Jack Kelliher, Shane Kennedy (0-01), Michael Aherne Subs: Conor Murphy, Robert Lee.
U 16 County Hurling League Dr. Crokes 2-15 Ballyduff 2-16 Our U 16 Hurlers went down by just 1 point in the semi-final of the Division 1 County League last Thursday night. This is a game we could have and should have won and all the players are well aware of this. Ballyduff started quick, registering 4 points on the board before we started to wake up and hurl.
In the second quarter, we began to get into the game a bit and for a 10 minute spell, dominated in all areas. We began to send good ball into the full-forward line and Chris Doncel showed his speed and class and stuck away 2 good goals.
Oscar O’Connor, Dean Farrell, Paul Clarke and Jack Lenihan all scored good points during this spell also.
Michael Burns also stormed in to the game and converted from 2 frees.
The half-time score was Ballyduff 2-9 to Dr. Crokes 2-7. Down 2 points but still well in the game.
The second half was again very even but the big difference was that they took their chances while we relied on some fantastic scores from Micheal Burns from both frees and play. We had too many wides and that is what cost us in the end.
Mark O Shea was very solid in goal and made numerous fine saves.
Michael Owen, Conor McSherry and Eodhan De Brun contested well in the full-back line . Aaron Murphy, at centre-back was very strong and effective and was ably assisted by Gavin White and Shane Lyne.
The Crokes mid-fielders Micheal Burns and Jack Lenihan were up against it but battled well and never gave up. Up front Daniel O’Brien, Oscar O’Connor, Mark O’Shea and Chris Doncel showed up well.
We were all very disappointed afterwards but I think it is sinking in now that we are quite good at hurling at this level and can easily do better. We will look back on this game and wonder why we did not take our chances and use the heads a little bit more.
We were certainly slow in settling into the game and stood off our men and gave them too much respect . . . . where did we hear that before?
There is no doubt that Ballyduff have some quality players that are well able to hurl but do you know what . . . . so have Dr. Crokes!
For the little amount of time we give to honing our skills at hurling, our players are competing exceptionally well and it begs the question that if we really put a bit more into it, what could happen and what could we achieve?
Unfortunately , the U16 County Hurling league games overlap with the East Kerry U16 Football league and priority is given to football training so we cannot prepare as we would like and need to prepare.
Hurling is not a game that you can just grab your hurley once a week and all of a sudden, turn it on and expect results.
When you consider that the most of these players are also playing other sports too, all at the same time, it is just asking too much.
On top of this, April and May are just the months when they are supposed to be studying for their Junior Cert. So let’s be fair to our lads, they are doing great, competing against the North Kerry boys who are playing a lot more hurling than us.
We will reassemble again and live to fight another day . . . . the knock-out Championship is on the 17Th July and we promised each other that we will try to go one better the next time.
Training continues on Saturdays from 4 to 5.15.
Scorers: Michael Burns (0-10), Chris Doncel (2-00), Oscar O Connor (0-02), Jack Lenihan (0-01), Paul Clarke (0-01), Dean Farrell (0-01).

CO. LEAGUE DIV 1 Ardfert 0-07 Dr. Crokes 2-13, played on Monday May 28 we had a good victory in this round 5 tie.
We started brightly and led 1-03 to 0-00 after five minutes the goal coming from Chris Brady, we continued to dominate proceedings in the opening half and led at the short whistle 2-08 to 0-03.
In a tough bruising encounter we continued to keep our opponents at bay and kicked on with six additional second half points to ensure victory.
COISTE NA OG U12 football We met neighbours Legion last Sunday in a tremendous game. While they had the better start, the Crokes boys finished the half off the stronger. Led by captain Oisín O’Connor, who played his first game in goal and what a revelation he was – brilliant. Garry O’Connor, JJ Buckley, Michael Lenihan, Josh Fleming and Frank MacGuire were terrific in defence, fending off attack after attack. The half-time score was 2-5 to 1-3 against us.
Crokes took control of the game in the second half to draw back level and go ahead, with some brave and skilful play from our lads. Midfielders Tristan O’Donoghue and Seán O’Neill worked tirelessly all night. Up front Jason Cahillane, Colm Cagney, Roan Delaney and Fionn Doherty pulled off some inspired scores. We were ahead and in control, when two fortuitous goals for the opposition just put them ahead at the final whistle. While disappointed with the result, the Crokes coaches were very proud of the manner in which our young men played this game – tremendous.
The U12 Boys Black team played 2 Co League Div 1B games this week past, Churchill at home on Tues 29th May and away to Killarney Legion on Sunday 3rd June. On both occasions the opposition were only fielding two under 12 teams , but we have over three teams in training so we brought everyone along and timely substituted every outfield player during both games ensuring that all the boys got game time to develop their skills in a match situation. As far as results go we were successful against Churchill and went down to our neighbours Legion.
U12 HURLERS remain unbeaten this year with a great victory over Ballyduff. In what was a very entertaining game, with terrific skills displayed by both teams, Crokes finished strong to win this encounter in Division 1 of the County League. Tough games lie ahead every Friday at 7.00pm for this very skillful team. Come along to see a great team of young hurlers and be entertained by the fastest field sport on earth... and the best.
Our U8s completed 3 weeks of Go-Games on Monday night. Over the 3 weeks over 36 players played for us. Everyone had a great time, played in all positions in the field & every player got loads of game time. Go-Games is a fantastic concept by the GAA which encourages participation in fun games against other clubs. Once everyone understands this concept, ands the enjoyment of the children is the only thing that matters, then it's a success. Many Thanks to Seanie Culloty (4 Star Pizza) for the treat afterwards. Everyone went home happy, which is the main goal.
A very busy few weeks lay ahead for all our U-6 to 10 Boys & Girls, John Mitchels and Laune Rangers are visiting in the next two weeks. Our U-8 are playing Glenflesk later in the month & our U-10 Boys blitz in on the last weekend of June. A very busy schedule by all.

CO. LEAGUE DIV. 1 Dr. Crokes 0-10 Spa 0-07 played in Lewis Road on Sunday last and fielding an under strength side we overcame the challenge of neighbours Spa. Leading at the short whistle 0-06 to 0-01 we just did enough in the second half to get the league points. Good defensive displays by Mike Moloney Kieran Ward and the Fitzgerald brothers Fionn & Cillian, midfielders Shane Doolan & Ambrose O`Donovan had the upper hand while in the forwards Jamie Doolan (0-05) Brian Looney (0-04) and Brendan Falvey (0-01) were prominent.

Mouth Guards From 1st January 2013 it will be compulsory for all juvenile players from Minor down, to wear gumshields when participating in Gaelic Games. Rather than waiting until then and in the hope of avoiding episodes of dental trauma, we have sourced top quality gumshields that fit all ages and come in the Dr Crokes colours. These gumshields are available at a reduced price of €13 in the club shop and we encourage all parents to get them immediately rather than paying for expensive dental work. Early purchase will also allow our players to get used to wearing them in training and matches before 2013 deadline. The gumshields come with both written and CD fitting instructions and also come with a protective box on which the players name can be recorded.
U14 EAST KERRY Gneevegulia 3-11 Dr. Crokes 2-11 again these sides served up a cracker on Monday June 25 in Gneevegulia. Having overcome the challenge in the Co. Final a number of weeks ago it looked as if we would do likewise in this game with a comfortable half time lead but the home team took control in the second half when we were unable to win any kind of quality ball in the middle third and ran out winners.
It looks as if these two sides will meet again in the final.
Co. U16 Div.1 Dr. Crokes 2-12 Gaeltacht 1-15 We all have heard the worn out cliche it being a game of two halves, but this definitely fitted the bill.
Dr. Crokes were first out of the blocks and led by 1-02 to 0-00 after 4 minutes, the goal coming from Adam O`Shea and points from Michael Casey & Darren O`Doherty, Tomas O`Se and Sean O`Barbane narrowed the gap with two quick points.
Crokes began to assert themselves and took control all over and added 1-05 without reply in the20 minutes. Minors from Miceal Burns Shane Lyne, Chris Doncel and Michael Casey and 1-01 from Darren O`Doherty.
Gaeltacht added two points fom Cathal O Goirbhin and PJ Mac Loinsigh, Crokes added three points from Doncel, Burns and Jordan Kiely to leave halftime score 2-10 to 0-04.
On the resumption it was a different Gaeltacht side that emerged, making a number of positional switches they began to dominate proceedings all over and the Crokes forward line were living off scraps, Colm O`Beagloi & Seamus O`Flatharigh took control in midfield and along with a rampant halfback line pinned Crokes in their own defense. O`Se at full forward caused panic on every occasion he gained possession.
Gaeltacht finally drew level in the 25th minute but that was their real last chance of a score it was Crokes who spurned three glorious chances in thos final minutes.
A draw was a fair result between two well prepared sides
LOTTO the jackpot of €6,900 was not won on Sunday last numbers drawn were 1,11,13,23. Match 3 winners received €50.

CO. LEAGUE DIV.
U21 we relinquished our U21 Championship crown with a poor display against Kenmare District on Wednesday last in Templenoe going down on a scoreline of 3-15 to 0-10. The U21 club championship will commence shortly.
COISTE NA OG Under 6/8sCrokes Under 6 & 8 Boys and Girls visited Killarney Fire Station on Sat 30 June and after a very educational talk, they were all taken for a short spin in the fire engine with sirens sounding and lights flashing. They also got to man the hose and were shown how to draw water to fill the tanks.
Check out environ.ie or irishfireservices.ie for further safety advice for the home etc.
Thanks to the staff of Killarney Fire Station for looking after all the Crokes boys & girls, they may have encouraged future recruits to this vital public service. Many thanks to all parents, coaches & club officials who have of their time and energy to make this a very successful Blitz.
Under 9/10s Also on June 30th, Dr Crokes hosted Under 9/10s from Na Gaeil, Cromane & Castleisland Desmonds .The rainclouds cleared for the games and everybody enjoyed the event.

They gave a session with the coaches then we broke our teams into relevant age groups and they worked with them. All players enjoyed working with Seamus & Mary in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. K.L.E. would know most teenagers from their great work they do in local schools. By working with K.L.E. we as a club hope to both educate our coaches, but more importantly help educate our players. A sincere' Thank You' to Seamus & Mary for their time in putting a specific program together for us, relevant to our needs, and we look forward to working with them again soon.
U13 COUNTY LEAGUE Dr. Crokes v Spa Our boys in Black and Amber met with Spa last Sunday evening at Lewis Road which turned out to be a thrilling game of football. Spa started out strong with an impressive lead of 2-6 to no score with just 17 mins played. Jack Griffin who was outstanding on the night got our first goal score of the game in the 18th minute, followed shortly by two more goals from Fionbarr Hickey and Ethan Fleming. The half time score was Spa 2-7 to crokes 3-2.
The game was tight throughout with great skills shown by Michael Potts and Captain James Kelly who was masterful up front. The second half performance was much better from our boys who dominated much of the ball throughout. An early goal in the second half put Spa 5 points clear but that did not deter our boys they never let up and with several points from Darren Mulcahy, Michael Lenihan and Jack Griffin it brought the sides level with five minutes to play but Jack Griffin and Fionnbar Hickey once again came to the rescue to seal the deal with a 3 point win on the night. Final score Crokes 4-11 Spa 4-8. Well done boys.
