Earlier today we had the privilege of watching eight teams, local and from Cork, Clare and Limerick, battle it out in the inaugural Invitation Colm Cooper Tournament. This is a new initiative from the Dr Crokes juvenile section that provides our under 13 players with an opportunity to play football against teams that they might not ordinarily come across; an opportunity to baseline ourselves against other teams in Kerry and other counties. Our lads did very well, just losing out at the semi-final stage to the eventual winners, Firies.
This tournament is also an opportunity to honour, in some small way, a giant that lives and plays his football among us; an opportunity to acknowledge the honour and profile he brings to our Club; an opportunity to say thanks for all the hard work, dedication and sacrifices he makes… and a lot, lot more. The giant – Colm Cooper.
On Saturday September 8th Dr Crokes will be hosting the inaugural Cooper Invitational Blitz. This 13 aside competition is for U13 Boys and will this first year consist of 8 teams, drawn from counties Kerry, Cork , Clare and Limerick and will be held at Dr Crokes grounds on Lewis Rd.
